1. Miyavi's latest single, title track Hi no Hikari sae Tohokanai kono Basho de[陽の光さえ届かないこの場所で] featuring SUGIZO. that's one big, loud 'YES.' a definite must-listen. douzo.

2. Tohoshinki's Kiss shita mama, Sayonara[Kissしたまま、さよなら], for its too-sparse instrumentation, lyrical huh?, weird weird title, arbitrary inclusion on the album (i imagine JaeChun using the combined force of their pouting talents. et, voila! ...and this is why they call my imagination over-active), and Jaejoong's SAYONARAAAA. yay!

3. Minimoni were magical. Jankenpyon, Q.E.D. the magic lives on! life couldn't get better.

4. a dangerously! unromantic Valentine's mixtape. it will either get you in the mood, or totally out of it. ;D

5. LUNA SEA. because you're worth it.

6. Changmin's When I First Kissed You cover (O Tour solo). niiice.

7. Vienna Teng. just in general but Lullabye for a Stormy Night in particular.

randomly, SE7EN's live cover of One Last Cry. i really am not sure he gets the song, but he makes a great vocal exercise outta it. and here's Justin Timberlake's. just for good measure.

check out nueuphony's BFF: robot_rotation. they are groovey, fly, and so much more. yay!

Utada Hikaru | Deep River

NEVER FEAR! I have a lot of brilliant updates coming shortly. Let's start off with another assorted entry.

The Little Mermaid was my favourite fairytale, and I just re-watched the Disney version (which was weird, because nowdays I'm more familiar with the fairytale). Anyway, it cracked me up a bit. Now, SMTOWN's (SM TOWN is composed of all debuted performers on SM Entertainment) Summer album is out, and being a cover album it just so happens to sport an erhm, interesting rendition of Under the Sea. Some say "feeble yet creepy", I say "*amused*".

Micky Yoochun of TVXQ covered Brian McKnight's One Last Cry for his solo during the O tour, recently released on CD to precede the DVD release. SE7EN also covered it live and then released it recently, (actually, about ten thousand people have covered it) although he treated it as a vocal exercise while Yoochun's rendition is beautifully emo. His voice isn't fabulous but I think it works (and, well, I adore Yoochun so I would..).

Speaking of emo, The Last Time I Saw Richard by Joni Mitchell is one of my favourite nostalgic songs.

L'Arc~en~Ciel won Best Group Video for STAY AWAY well, quite a while ago now, and heaped on the Engrish in their acceptance speech. Hyde was especially grateful, man~. Very amusing.

Last of all, Chae Yeon is gorgeous, so here's her My Love music video. Dance-softpop type music, and the video has a sort of Beyonce-type ambition to it.
東方神起 | 五線紙 Tohoshinki | Gosenshi
From Tohoshinki's (aka TVXQ, Dong Bang Shin Ki) recently released 11th Japanese single (Lovin' You) an upbeat pop track with slightly-amusing lyrics. I thought Yoochun was singing 流れながら but the lyrics seem to be 眺めながら? Who knows. Cute ♥. Jaejoong needs to be careful with his つづ[tsudzu]...I really thought he was saying すず[suzu]. And was confused. Of course the highlight is Yunho's ridiculous wikka wikka Engrish er, interlude. But it's a fun song, yo!

동방신기 | All in Vain Dong Bang Shin Ki | All in Vain
From the Air City OST. Yoochun sings lead vocals. Seriously beautiful song. Seriously.

마골피 | 비행소녀 Magolpy | Bihaeng So Nyeo
They didn't reveal her until her debut performance...which I think was a bit of a mistake. Actually it was the 80s styling that was their biggest mistake -__-;; I do like the song though, she has a great voice.

坂本美雨 | The Eighth Colour Sakamoto Miu | The Eighth Colour (ft. Sakamoto Ryuichi & SUGIZO)
I like this. Sakamoto Miu has a sweet soprano voice and the track has a dreamlike quality. It grows on you.

Anyone have a request?

Evan re-entered the Korean music scene a few months ago with the enchanting 남자도...어쩔 수 없다 (Namjado...Ojjul Soo Optda or Men too...are Useless). His debut solo album is a nice mix of lounge, hiphop, jazz and pop that beautifully compliments his smooth, downright gorgeous voice. Producer, former H.O.T member, Tony, does a commendable job packaging all the musical elements into a cohesive and listenable product.

남자도...어쩔 수 없다 is the stand-out track, both honest and beautifully sad, just too damn pretty to pass up, while Eternal Sunshine is its upbeat counterpart, definitely a song to smile to. 반 [Ban (Half)] has to be my other favourite, catchy and nicely paced. Some of the other tracks are negligible, the album loses a bit of it's velocity in ending with a string of ballads, but it is worth checking out for the stand-out tracks alone. I keep coming back to it. This is the first solo k-pop singer I've really hooked onto (except maybe Kangta).

I recommend this! Especially if you've never checked out k-pop before.

A friend sent me a heap of media (mostly dramas) on dvds last year, including a few random Korean albums. Me, (foolishly!) not being into Korean music past the whole "ooo, pretty looking lovely sounding boyband!" flailage, wasn't really that quick on checking them out. One morning getting ready for uni my playlist happened across this really, damn good hiphop. I almost missed my bus taking time to dump the album on Kurage, my trusty ipod, so I could listen to it for the rest of the day. To tell the truth, I've never been into hiphop. I've tried a lot of it out and not been fond of much, but this really caught my attention first listen.

Epik High is: two MCs (Tablo, Mirtha Jin) and DJ Tukutz. (Learn more about them at wiki.) With Tablo's Masters in English Lit (from Stanford), Mirtha Jin's background in poetry, and DJ Tukutz previous immersion in the underground scene, as well as their mixed cultural experience, Epik High is pretty much a dream team.

Review High Society is Epik High's second album (they've just recently released their 4th) and seems to follow the title concept pretty successfully. What I find especially attractive about Epik High is that they tackle important contemporary issues without letting the issues weigh their songs down musically, without resorting to shock-tactics, and usually by use of a character-type first-person narrative (c'mon, we all love stories).

High Society combines strong hiphop beats, sampling, turntable scrathing with strong vocals (Tablo and Mirtha Jin complement each other extremely well) as well as guest spots from a whole host of additional artists. The album has a strong urban flavour and a lot of energy to it, and evokes feeling of "realness" you often get from really good hiphop. The tracks are catchy and interesting and just a lot of fun to listen to (I recommend 뚜뚜루, High Skool, and 평화의 날).
